Success is a multifaceted concept that can be defined differently by each individual. For some success is having money and for others, it might be independence. However, regardless of how one defines success, it is widely acknowledged that the people we surround ourselves with can significantly impact our journey toward achieving success.
You don’t become a success alone as you need friends who can support you and a family who listens to your business trials and tribulations. The company we keep and surround ourselves with plays an important role in shaping our mindset, motivation, and overall trajectory in life.
Keep reading this article as we explore the types of people you should surround yourself with to enhance your chances of success, delve into the qualities that define a successful individual, and highlight the keys to unlocking your own success.
The Definition of Success
Before we can even dive into the types of people you should consider surrounding yourself with for success, it is important to understand the meaning of success itself. Few including me when I was young believed that success was solely measured by wealth or social status. While the above-mentioned commodities are indicators of success, the reality of success is far simpler than we can imagine.
Success is not solely measured by wealth, fame, or social status as it encompasses a holistic approach to life and varies from person to person. Some may define success as achieving a career goal, while others may view it as finding fulfillment in personal relationships, health, or personal growth.
I might be earning in doing the same old corporate job but due to my hectic job, I might not be able to spend time with my family. For me, success at this moment can be to spend more time with my loved ones and succeed in cracking the work-life balance code. Success for me is a subjective concept and each individual must define it based on their values and aspirations.
Types of people to surround yourself
People who listen to you instead of talking to you.
We are surrounded by individuals who just know one thing, speak. Most of us have tendencies to preach our own ideals, thoughts, and suggestions even before listening to our problems. Such people are problematic as they are not even one percent interested in solving your problem as they are more focused on preaching their opinion.
But there are few people who are compassionate and have leadership skills. These few individuals are inspiring, motivating, and empathetic in nature, they listen to your problem only as a matter of fact that they care about you and want to solve your problem. Such people are powerful in nature.
They want to know more about you, your business and want to help, constantly wanting to get in touch with people they know can help and solve your problem. They ask you a lot of questions and listen to every word you say. They won’t turn every conversation you have around them. They are genuinely interested in what you do and who you serve.
Surround Yourself with People Who Challenge You
People who challenge you to be better every day are some of the most powerful in your network. Most of us don’t have questions to answer. We are searching for answers to solve problems we are facing in life. It’s fine to not have immediate answers to the problem you are facing, what’s not fine is giving up on yourself and not having the hope of the fact that others may not have answers to your questions.
Most successful people have answers to a lot of tough questions or situations they are facing. Chances are that they might have already faced the same problem in the past and from their experience, they can help you out. The only thing you have to do is ask for help.
Surround yourself with successful people who challenge you to find a solution to the problem you are facing. They may annoy you at times but they bring you to a level you might not have attained.
People who love their life
Life is not easy and definitely not fair. You might be struggling in life whether it is financially, professionally, or even emotionally. Whatever the reason can be, not loving your life only for the reason that everything is not going according to the plan, is the dumbest thing you could do for yourself.
To be successful in life and love your life, you need to surround yourself with people who just have a positive attitude about life. You have to surround yourself with people that remind you that life is too short to worry about your work or life-related problems. Such people remind you of the importance of your existence.
Such people may have had a near-death experience themselves or close to home, but they give you an inspiration that you have never had before. They enable you to think beyond the job, which is good to get inspired and be prepared for anything that life throws at you in the future.
People who are Network Connectors:
There are few successful people who are very good at networking with others. Building a diverse network of individuals from different industries and backgrounds can open doors to new opportunities and collaborations. Network connectors have a wide circle of contacts and can introduce you to influential people or provide valuable connections in your industry.
People who trust you enough to follow your lead
I am not talking about the people who follow you on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. I am talking about the people who literally follow you. These are the people who are team players as they listen to you and challenge you, and generally, they are your cheerleaders and you are theirs. You communicate your vision regarding a problem and they listen to you and back you up. They understand the potential you hold and are there for you no matter the circumstances.
In Conclusion
Surrounding yourself with the right people can significantly influence your path to success. Choose individuals who can inspire you, support your inspirations, and share your values. You need to remember and understand that success is a personal journey and the road to success is different for each and everyone one of us. Cultivate the qualities of successful individuals, remain focused, and continue learning and growing. With the right mindset, a strong support network, and a commitment to personal growth, you can unlock your true potential and embark on a successful and fulfilling journey.
